The farm is located in a rural area with very few habitants and is characterized for being a very religious and superstitious community. The name of the farm, VARA BLANCA comes from a medium size bush that grows in this region that has a white bark. I decided to keep the name that the people give this region as the name of my farm. The farm is managed under a conventional method that respects as much as possible the environmental policies of protection such as: soil and water care and adequate shade management.
Thanks to God, I have achieved my dream of producing coffee and that dream is nowadays the MICROBENEFICIO GRANO DE ORO LA ROSITA (the micro mill) with two years of operation.
We had interest in participating in Cup of Excellence since last year and fortunately we had the time to prepare the coffee for the event. My family; my wife, my daughter and me, Marco Antonio, does all the work at the mill.
After bringing the samples to the SCACR – Specialty Coffee Association of Costa Rica - we began a wonderful journey of suspense and nerves because there are many participants in the elimination rounds. For our surprise, we won the eighth place despite being the first year of participating in the event.
The experience of participating in this project has been unforgettable. We know we will face economic challenges and difficulties, but now we know we must invest time and resources to participate and earned this type of awards.
I think the program is a great opportunity that helps the producer to know the quality of the coffee they produced and thus implement the measures and strategies that allow us to improve quality, cup and milling procedures based on the recommendations of national and international cuppers.
