Finca La Cumbre
The farm is located in the east part of El Salvador, in the town of Berlin, Usulután. The
cultivated area of coffee is 5 hectares, at one of the highest point of the Tecapa Volcano, with altitude of 1500 to 1590 meters above sea level. The farm owner is Gilberto Baraona, who is a 4th generation coffee farmer, and has been in the Baraona family since 1889.
La Cumbre has been a prior CoE winner, the specialty coffee potential from this farm was first discover Tim Wendelboe, WBC 2015. The farm has the optimal specialty coffee growing conditions, volcanic soil, cold climate, annual rain amount, and solar exposure.
Currently the primary varietals in production are: bourbon elite, and pacas and pacamara The farm process washed, honeys, and naturals, with natural and mechanical fermentation process.
This microlot is a bourbon elite and pacas varietal, washed coffee, soaked kenya style for 24 hours, natural fermented at controlled temperature, shade dry in raised african beds for 25 days.
The farm provides permanent employment to more than 5 persons, and all proceeds from the CoE, are re-invest in the farm and its workers.
