Farm story:
In 1973 Esquipulas was designated as an independent farm after its separation of another farm called Santa Teresa. It is located in the municipality of Coatepeque, Santa Ana in “Cerro Potosi.” This zone was developed in the 1870s as coffee zones by a Colombian family; the Alvarez family. This property was acquired in the 90s by the Lima family society and has remained in their possession ever since.
This farm has an area of 20 hectares and is cultivated by two main varieties of Bourbon: Red Bourbon and Yellow Bourbon. Currently, the whole farm is being renovated with the same varieties of coffee. Esquipulas is a Rainforest Alliance certified farm, also it holds the NOP, USDA and JAS Organic certifications. Esquipulas has its own coffee nursery which is used to experiment for the renovation of coffee plants and shade trees. The Society that owns the farm has a lot of environmental awareness which is why the farm has conserved its 80-year-old shade trees with a lot of care. The company holds a strict business policy of social responsibility that is thoroughly followed.
The coffee is processed in La Marina processing plant, property of a sister-society. The plant has capabilities for processing washed, honey, and natural coffee; yellow and red varieties are separated since the commercialization is separated. The processing plant holds the certification of Organic processor of coffee.
