Serbando Galo owns the La Mora in the community of Chichicastal, Santiago de Puringla, one of the first coffee producers in the region and one of the pioneers in the production of specialty coffee in this region.
He participated since the first edition of COE and won three times: 2006 (22nd place); 2007 (12th place); 2008 (5th place). After several years dedicated to the production and sale of specialty coffees, Serbando decides to compete in COE again to check its validity in the specialty coffee market.
The passion of coffee production shared with his son who is responsible for all activities of production and processing. Serbando’s farm was attacked by rust in 2012, however he was able to overcome and work hard to recover and renew part of his farm. The handle of his farm is conventional; the nutrition is based on soil analysis and following the recommendations of technicians of the IHCAFE, like many farmers in this area, uses the pulp and water waste as fertilizer in the coffee plants.
Serbando processes his coffee with great care and dedication, participation in the international market has given him invaluable knowledge he does not skimp on share with his family and other producers in the region. Serbando hopes this new COE success will enable him to recover the entire farm and make the necessary improvements to continue producing high quality coffee.
