Overview
Juan Carlos Gregg Meza is the owner of these two beautiful farms that
are located in the midst of the Apaneca-Ilamatepec Mountain Range.
San Jose Farm was inherited to Juan Carlos from his grandfather in
1997, and therefore Juan Carlos took this great treasure with profound
responsibility and passion. The 3.5 Ha of San Jose is mainly cultivated
with the Bourbon variety, an heirloom variety in El Salvador, to which
the refined characteristics in the cup are attributed. Due to its size,
San Jose receives a garden-like management all year round, from
agricultural activities during the rainy season to harvesting in the dry
season. All of these activities are performed by an experienced team of
farm workers guided by Cruz Aguilar, the farm’s administrator, who has
been working at this particular farm for over 15 years.
El Recuerdo is the other farm in this winning blend that is located
at Canton Saltillal, which is about a 5 minute-drive from the San Jose
farm. Its 7 Ha of Bourbon coffee is placed under an Ingas and avocado
canopy, which provides an average cool temperature of 20ºC all year
round. El Recuerdo was acquired by Juan Carlos in 2004 as part of his
mission to increase his coffee patrimony and also contribute to the
production of gourmet quality coffees in El Salvador.
Juan Carlos, as an agronomist himself, is highly committed to
continue producing coffee under innovative agricultural practices that
will obtain good yields, but will preserve the great quality of his
coffees. He understand this will be only possible with the help and
commitment of his farm workers; therefore, Juan Carlos cares for the
well being of the workers and their families by providing wages above
the law requirements, paid vacation periods and covering medical
expenses when needed.
As a fourth generation coffee producer, Juan Carlos is very proud of
the great legacy that his grandfather gave him, and is strongly
committed to pass it on to his generation in order to contribute to a
bright future for Salvadoran Coffees!
