SANTA LUCIA
This is a farm seeded with the traditional coffee varieties
as the Arabic hybrids (Borbón) and a part of the Caturra variety. This little
farm has many kinds of fruit trees: oranges, sweet lemon, bananas, apples,
guava, tangerines, also there are some exotic wood trees like: Cedars, Sota
Horse, Laurel and Eucalyptus and some spices like: achiote. On this farm
the coffee was worked 100% Honey (dried to the sun with the totality of
its honeys), also is has received a small coffee quantity from Don Marcelo
Nuñez’s farm, which is located in the Quebradas district, in order to fit
the minimum required by Cup of the Excellence. For the three harvests that
the Mena Castro Family has been working on this farm, they has hired only
women, who are part of the mothers of the community which attend the Teachers
Mother’s Garden, in order not to benefit them with the work but with the
payment for their work. Only ripe cherries are collected, which help those
women to get a better payment.
