2008 Colombia Cup of Excellence® Winning Farms - Auction October 30, 2008 |
Lot#: 1 Eduardo Valencia - Villa Loyola |
The farm is located 2 kilometers away of the Municipality of Chachaguí, it was a donation of Manuel Delgado and other people to the members of the Church "compañía de Jesus - Jesuits" for the relax of the priests and some students. This donation was done more than 100 years ago. At that time, the farm had some coffee lots grown in the traditional way, as well as corn and cattle. 20 years ago, coffee crops were more intense in the farm and also more technified, since the beginning the coffee was grown under shade trees, because the area has been windy. The quality of the coffee from the farm has improved notoriously because we decided to follow the instructions of the Committee of Coffee Growers of Nariño, we have improved the salary and living conditions of the permanent and temporary workers of the farm, we don't allow the children to work, instead the have to go to the school which is also in the area of the farm. 7 hectares from the farm has been used by the Environment Control Center of the Department of Nariño, for the growing of "guadua" as a tool to be used in the farms of the coffee growers of the area. |
